Because it penetrates well into tissues and cells, doxycycline is effective against a broad range of infections, including chlamydia.

How to take Doxycycline to treat Chlamydia

Dosage

100 mg taken orally twice daily (every 12 hours)

Duration

7 days (a total of 14 doses)

What other precautions should you take whilst on this treatment

  • Avoid taking indigestion remedies or medicines with iron or zinc within 2 hours of Doxycycline, as they reduce its absorption and effectiveness. 
  • Also, protect your skin from sunlight and avoid sunbeds, since Doxycycline can make you prone to rashes from sun exposure.
  • Avoid sex until you’ve finished the full 7-day treatment and your symptoms have cleared. Sexual partners should also complete the same antibiotic course before resuming sexual activity to prevent re-infection.
