What is Sildenafil?
Sildenafil is a medication used to treat Erectile Dysfunction (ED). It belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) inhibitors. PDE 5 Inhibitors work by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis in response to sexual stimulation and allowing more blood to flow into the penis and help with getting and maintaining an erection. Sildenafil will only help you to get an erection if you are sexually stimulated.
How do I take Sildenafil?
One tablet should be taken at around 1 hour before having sex. It is advised you take the tablet with a full glass of water and on an empty stomach or with little food as possible in your stomach.
You should not take more than one tablet in any 24-hour period and you should always take Sildenafil as directed by the prescriber or Doctor.
What is the recommended starting dose for Sildenafil?
The recommended starting dose is 50mg. This is to ensure you are not experiencing any side effects to the medication. If you are not experiencing side effects and 50mg may not be effective for you, then you may request the higher 100mg dose. There is also a lower 25mg dose if you are experiencing side effects to the 50mg dose.
You must not take more than 100mg in a single dose as it can increase the risk of side effects. Trials have also shown that doses above 100mg DOES NOT increase the efficacy of the drug
What are the main side effects of Sildenafil?
Headache is the most common side effect of taking Sildenafil. Nausea and indigestion is also a common side effect.
