Proven relief from painful bowel spasms. Alverine works directly on the gut to ease IBS cramps, stomach pain and bloating, so you can get on with your day.
Alverine is an antispasmodic treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other conditions causing painful spasm of the gut. It relieves stomach cramps, abdominal pain and bloating by acting directly on the smooth muscle of the bowel, relaxing it and calming the spasms responsible for IBS pain. Alverine does not have sedative effects, so it relieves symptoms without causing drowsiness, and it has been a well-established IBS treatment for many years.
The usual dose is one or two 60mg capsules taken up to three times a day, or one 120mg capsule up to three times a day, as advised during your consultation. Swallow the capsules whole with water. Alverine can be taken when symptoms flare up or regularly to keep symptoms under control. Do not exceed the stated dose. If you miss a dose, take the next one as normal — do not take a double dose to make up for it.
Most people take Alverine without problems. Uncommon side effects can include nausea, headache, dizziness, itching or skin rash. Rarely, allergic reactions can occur — stop taking the capsules and seek urgent medical attention if you develop wheezing, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips or tongue. Very rarely, liver problems have been reported; see a doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes. Tell your pharmacist or doctor about any side effect that concerns you.
Do not take Alverine if you are allergic to alverine citrate or any of the capsule ingredients, or if you have a blocked bowel (intestinal obstruction) or paralytic ileus. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding — tell our pharmacist if this applies to you. As with any IBS treatment, seek medical advice first if you are over 40 with new symptoms, or have blood in your stools, unexplained weight loss or persistent fever, as these symptoms need proper investigation.
