Wegovy® Tablet — The new daily weight loss tablet

Wegovy tablet is now MHRA-approved in the UK. Same active ingredient as the Wegovy pen but with no needles and no fridge required.

The Wegovy tablet is a once-daily oral treatment for weight management, made by Novo Nordisk — the same manufacturer behind the Wegovy injection pen. It contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient, in tablet form.

It was approved by the MHRA on 11 June 2026, making it the first oral GLP-1 medicine licensed for weight loss in the UK.

We supply the Wegovy tablet by discreet post in four strengths, following an online consultation and prescriber approval.

What is the Wegovy tablet?

Wegovy is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works by reducing appetite and helping you feel fuller for longer, so you naturally eat less.

It is not a quick fix or a standalone solution. It is licensed for use alongside a reduced-calorie diet, increased physical activity, and long-term habit change — and it works best that way.

How is the tablet different from the Wegovy pen?

For people who are anxious about needles, find injection sites uncomfortable, or simply want to avoid carrying a refrigerated pen while travelling, the tablet removes a barrier that has kept some people from seeking treatment at all.

The trade-off is that the tablet has stricter timing rules than the pen — see below.

Who is eligible for Wegovy tablet?

The Wegovy tablet is licensed for adults with:

• A BMI of 30 or above, or
• A BMI of 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related health condition

To get a prescription, you’ll complete an online consultation covering your health, weight history, current medications and treatment goals. Our GPHC registered qualified prescriber reviews this before deciding whether treatment is suitable. Under new regulatory guidelines, we must verify your BMI. To do this you will need to schedule a short review consultation either over a quick 10-minute video call, by coming into our Pharmacy based in Manchester or London, or booking for one of our nurses to come to your home. Our prescriber will pre-approve your treatment and we will contact you to arrange your review consultation. If approved, your treatment is supplied with full guidance on dosing and ongoing support.

The tablet is not currently available on the NHS. Any future NHS access will depend on a NICE assessment, so private prescription is one of the first routes available in the UK.

How much weight could I lose with Wegovy tablet, and how long does it take?

In the OASIS 4 trial — a 64-week study of 307 adults living with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition — participants taking once-daily oral semaglutide 25mg alongside lifestyle support:

• Lost 13.6% of body weight on average, compared with 2.2% on placebo
• Lost 16.6% on average among those who stayed fully on treatment, compared with 2.7% on placebo
• Around one in three of those who stayed on treatment lost 20% or more of their body weight

Novo Nordisk reports that weight loss with the tablet is broadly similar to that seen with the Wegovy 2.4mg injection. Individual results vary, and outcomes depend heavily on staying consistent with both the medication and the lifestyle changes alongside it.

Can I switch from Wegovy or Mounjaro injections to tablets?

Yes in both cases — but the two switches are not the same, and our prescriber will work with you to set your starting dose.

Switching from the Wegovy injection

Both forms contain semaglutide, so this is a same-medicine switch and generally straightforward.

The prescribing information sets out one defined route: patients on the 2.4mg weekly injection can move to the 25mg daily tablet, starting one week after their final injection. There is no need to work back up through the lower tablet strengths.

The tablet numbers look far bigger than the injection numbers. That reflects absorption, not strength — only a small fraction of oral semaglutide reaches the bloodstream, so 25mg daily by mouth delivers a clinical effect comparable to 2.4mg weekly by injection.

Two things to expect:

• Semaglutide stays in your system for around a week, so the injection is still working during the seven-day gap. You shouldn’t notice appetite returning.
• Some digestive side effects may briefly reappear as your body adjusts to absorbing the medicine through the gut rather than under the skin.

Switching from Mounjaro

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide — a different molecule that acts on two receptors (GIP and GLP-1) where semaglutide acts on one. The doses are not interchangeable, and there is no published NICE or MHRA conversion between the two treatments.

Switching is still possible under medical supervision. In practice, you would take your final Mounjaro injection, leave a week, then begin Wegovy tablets at the dose your prescriber decides — based on your current dose, how well you have responded, and any side effects you’ve experienced. Depending on your circumstances, that may mean starting at a lower tablet strength and building up rather than going straight to 25mg.

Who should not take the Wegovy tablet?

Allergy. You must not take Wegovy if you are hypersensitive to semaglutide or to any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet.

Not recommended

• Severe kidney impairment (eGFR below 30), including end-stage kidney disease. Mild and moderate kidney impairment do not require a dose change.
• Severe liver impairment. Mild and moderate liver impairment do not require a dose change, but are used cautiously.
• Severe gastroparesis (significantly delayed stomach emptying). Milder gastroparesis is a reason for caution, as digestive side effects may be worse.
• Severe heart failure (NYHA class IV), where there is no clinical experience.
• Alongside another GLP-1 medicine. Wegovy should not be combined with Mounjaro, Ozempic, Saxenda or similar.
• Under 18s. Safety and effectiveness have not been established.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding — see below.
• Age 85 and over. Experience in this age group is limited, so treatment needs individual clinical judgement.

Tell your prescriber if you have

• A history of pancreatitis. Semaglutide has not been studied in these patients and is used with caution.
• Kidney impairment of any degree. Sickness, vomiting or diarrhoea can cause dehydration, which can affect kidney function.
• Type 2 diabetes treated with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Your doses may need reducing to lower the risk of hypoglycaemia.
• Diabetic retinopathy. Close monitoring is needed.
• A history of bariatric surgery, which raises the risk of low blood sugar.

Medicines that need checking

• Warfarin and other coumarin anticoagulants. More frequent INR monitoring is recommended when starting Wegovy.
• Levothyroxine. Semaglutide increases thyroxine absorption, so thyroid levels should be monitored.
• All other oral medicines. Because of the 30-minute rule, everything you take by mouth needs timing around your Wegovy dose. Bring a full list to your consultation, including over-the-counter products, supplements and herbal remedies.

Before an operation

Tell your surgeon or anaesthetist that you take Wegovy. GLP-1 medicines slow stomach emptying, and cases of stomach contents entering the lungs have been reported in patients under general anaesthetic or deep sedation.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Wegovy must not be used in pregnancy, as the effect on an unborn baby is not known. Use contraception while taking it.

If you are planning a pregnancy, stop Wegovy at least two months beforehand, because semaglutide stays in the body for a long time. If you become pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning a baby while taking Wegovy, speak to your doctor immediately, as treatment will need to stop.

Do not take Wegovy while breastfeeding.

Get medical help straight away if you experience

• Severe, persistent stomach pain, which may spread to your back — a possible sign of pancreatitis
• Sudden loss of vision, including partial loss — a rare eye condition (NAION) has been linked to semaglutide

Buying Wegovy tablet safely

Only buy prescription weight loss medication from a registered, regulated pharmacy or online doctor service. A legitimate service will always require a consultation reviewed by a qualified prescriber.
